Sanusi Tells Wealthy men in the north to quit squandering cash in building mosques.

Emir Sanusi
The Emir of Kano, Mallam Sanusi Muhammadu II, on Thursday called on wealthy people in the North to quit squandering cash in building mosques but rather invest it in girl-child education.

The Emir stated this on Thursday in his keynote address at the 3rd international conference on Islamic Banking and Finance, composed by the International Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, Bayero University, Kano.

According to him, "I'm just tired of individuals coming to me to tell me they want to build a mosque. You know, we continue building mosques and our little girls are uneducated.

"Therefore, my plea is that in the event that you truly want to help Kano, don't come to me with a demand to construct a N300m mosque since I have enough mosques all over the place. Furthermore, on the off chance that I don't have a mosque, I'll build it myself. On the off chance that you truly want to help, go and educate a young lady in the village."

The imperial father noted that more than 50% of young ladies between the ages of 18 and 20 were given out in marriage in that part of the country.

He required an audit of laws to avert early marriage and empower girl-child education.
Sanusi included, "It is not an insignificant fortuitous event this is the place you have the most abnormal amounts of illiteracy, early marriage, divorce and high level of domestic violence…

"Individuals need to comprehend that the law needs to change. In the event that you take a gander at the therapeutic information on maternal well-being, young ladies who get pregnant beneath the age of 15 are five times as liable to die as young ladies who get pregnant at 20 years old.

"The individuals who get pregnant under 18 are twice as prone to death as the individuals who get pregnant at 20 years old. In this way, it is critical that we take a gander at this issue of early marriage."

Only few days back, the Emir said that the Kano Emirate Council and the government of Kano state was working towards passing a law to stop early marriage in Northern Nigeria.‎
